Weekly Game Update: November 13th - November 19th, 2022

Woo, that was a week! I had a doctor appointment and I had to go again to get some blood tests done... Which involved waking up at 6AM (way too early for me) and having my arm jabbed. For some reason the arm I got my COVID booster shot in decided to be sore the same day (even though it was a week after I had the shot) so I also had two sore arms! Yaaay... So yeah, that plus some other medical stuff meant I was very tired and so I only ended up playing the easier for me to manage stuff, Aka Pocket Card Jockey and Genshin Impact. Hopefully now that I'm in the right direction to feeling better (yay productive doctor visits), I should start feeling less tired soonish. Hopefully. Medical stuff can be frustratingly slow sometimes ._.

With that out of the way, on to the updates!

Book Stuff

No progress with The Tea Enthusiast’s Handbook or Art Before Breakfast.

DONE: Elle(s) Vol 1 (Kid Toussant & Aveline Stokart) - 114pgs

I randomly came across this while browsing on Hoopla, so I thought I mind as well check it out. It's a pretty interesting start, as the main character switches personalities (in a magic way?) and this evil one is trying to take over I think. Plus some mysteries about her birth and some strangers who are taking pictures of her, all while trying to fit in to a new school. Lovely art always helps too.

I do have one big problem with it though, but it's not the fault of the volume. It is something that I almost always have with comics/graphic novels, and that is that the volume is WAY too short to get anywhere. It's like I just read half of chapter one in a full story, even though this volume is somehow a collection of three issues?? Since this volume is super new too (I think it came out this month), I can't really just go ahead and read the next volume. I'm just stuck here with part 1 of the introduction, waiting for whenever the other volumes come out. I guess the tactic here is to hook you in so you buy all the issues as they release, but it's so little content in a volume that it just kind of makes me grumpy.

If I happen to come across more volumes on Hoopla, sure I'll definitely read them, but I'm not going out of my way to keep track of the release schedule.

Game Stuff

Added (Purchases/Gifts):
None!

Subscription Addition Highlights:
Game Pass: +2 games
PS Plus: +13 games (two of those are collections though lol)

There are some pretty beefy additions this week!

Kingdom Hearts (PS Plus) - As in, pretty much all of the Kingdom Hearts! I haven't really played all that much of Kingdom Hearts (like maybe a little bit of the first or second game on PS2?), but I am interested! Might have to try it out at some point...

What Remains of Edith Finch (PS Plus) - I don't know a whole lot about this game (probably for the best), but I've heard good things about it and it seems interesting to me. I know it's more of a walking simulator type game but I'm fine with that. I don't think it's too lengthy either so I might give it a go sooner rather than later.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers & Iron Rain (PS Plus) - I haven't played too much of the Earth Defense Force games, but I REALLY liked what I have played. Both of these games didn't get a NA physical release too, so it might be a good excuse to try them out before I hunt around for ASN physical copies. Really hyped for both games.

Subscription Games That Are Leaving Soon (Nov 30th)
Archvale - I think I've seen someone talking about this game recently... Can't remember who or if they liked it or not lol. Regardless, it seems like a cute little RPG. I'm not opposed to the bullet hell aspect of it either. Could be fun! Really want to try this before it leaves Game Pass.

Deeeer Simulator - This has a strong potential to be either a game I love or a game I hate. It's got a very goofy jankiness to it that reminds me of Goat Simulator, which I had quite a lot of fun with. This is another game that I really want to try!

Mind Scanners - I'm not exactly sure what the gameplay is like for this one just at a quick glance... It seems kind of heavy on the puzzles and heavy on the darker themes though, which are two things that I don't tend to enjoy very much. It's possible that I might still try it out, but it's more likely that I'll just skip out on this one.

Mortal Shell - This one looks heavily inspired by the Souls games. It's super similar looking to those games (to someone who hasn't played any Souls games lol) and I honestly did a double take for a sec when looking at some quick gameplay/screenshots lol. I haven't really played any Souls or Souls-like games before, and while I do want to try one eventually, I don't think I'd want to start off with this one.

Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator - The title sounds amazing and makes me want to play it ASAP, but when I actually take a look at the game... yeah it's actually taking the trading simulator part more seriously than I was expecting. Buying/selling and keeping track of market stuff is really not my thing, so this one is a definite pass.

Undungeon - I'm not sure what to think of this one. It's an action RPG, which could work for me, but it just doesn't look all that interesting to me. Maybe I'll check out some reviews or something and try it out anyway, but it's not a high priority.

Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector - My knowledge of Warhammer 40k is that it's popular and that there are a bunch of dudes with big bulky armor. The armor does have a distinctive look to it that makes it easy to know that it comes from the universe, but I really don't know much more than that lol. Reading the description for this game, I have a very strong feeling that this is geared more towards people who are already fans of Warhammer 40k. Definitely going to pass on this one lol.

Games Played

Pocket Card Jockey (3DS eshop) - 29:21 (+5:24)

Just more and more racing. I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with it though, since you need to win the Royal Derby to "beat" the game. However, you only get ONE shot at it for each horse. I wouldn't say that it takes forever to get to that point, but it still takes enough time to be a bit annoying. I got one chance at the Royal Derby within this playtime, and I got SO DANG CLOSE. I think I was second or third! But, I didn't win and it was all because my horse's stats weren't quite good enough. This particular horse was really good at blasting through every other race... Just not this one. Even though I basically played perfectly!

I'm really losing steam over this one, and I'm thinking that I'm going to have to put it aside soon. I think it might be fine to play it more casually, but treating it as a game to beat is probably hurting it.

Genshin Impact (PS5) - 181:29 (+16:24)

Yeah... I played a lot of Genshin lol. I finished off all of the Fungi Capturing event thing, and got through all of the side story stuff. Plus I did a few quests that I had been hanging on to for way too long lol. I still have a few others to do, but I've mostly cleared out my quests! It feels strange since I'm used to having this giant list of quests lol.

It's nice to finally get that cleaned up, but now what? Currently there's an event going on that centers around taking pictures in various locations, which I did start on this week. It's a very, very quick event though, so it doesn't really take up much time. The next event is pretty much a straight up "fight things I guess" sort of event, which I don't like so I'm probably not going to do much with that. The other upcoming event isn't up until the 28th (and it's another very, very quick sort of event), so now I'm just free to do what I please I guess! It feels so great, yet so daunting lol.

I'll probably try to finish up the other quests I still have, see if there are any hidden ones that I'm still missing, go hunting for achievements (which give the premium currency, primogems), and maybe I'll give a go at the Abyss. It's a fairly daunting and difficult sounding set of combat challenges, but I have been wanting to tackle them! Oh and I guess I should do some more work on improving my characters too. That's important if I want to use them I guess lol. I do want to play other games though, so I'll try not to go too ham lol.

No Progress

Astro Bot Rescue Mission (PS VR) - 0:45
Everybody’s Golf (PS4) - 36:51
Harvestella (Switch) - 2:21
Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4) - 50:08
Trails in the Sky FC (Steam) - 3:42

Backlog Update

Backlog: 2328 (+11)
Time to Beat: 47,648 hrs (+385 hrs)

Yeesh that's quite the jump in hours! I blame the Kingdom Hearts games lol. Looks like Harvestella has a time estimate now too, so that probably doesn't help either.

And that's it! I'm writing in the middle of the next week again (aka Thanksgiving week? Not sure how to word this lol), so I've already played some things (like Harvestella). I really want to get back into Trails in the Sky as well, but I always say that ._. It's definitely less busy the "next" week though so that should be nice for a breather.

If you celebrate it, hope you have a good Thanksgiving! :)
