September 2022 Monthly Update

September was a really lame month for gaming (and reading and other things too!). Not sure if it was mostly my mood getting in the way, or if this was a particularly busy month, but I did make some progress here and there at least! Oh and I reduced my now playing list by one whole game! Yay!

One big progress thing I did this month though, was getting those online only trophies for Everybody’s Golf. I didn’t get a chance to use the online mode to knock out some more eagles that I need, but I caught all of the fish and got all of the more difficult scores out of the way. Good thing too because now the servers have been shut down! I have dawdled on this sort of thing in the past, so I’m glad I was able to push myself to get that all done. Still, sad to see them shut down and kind of wish I gave them a chance earlier. I didn’t try it at all until I found the server closure announcement, so I didn’t really have much time with it. Not really much I can do about it now though.

I also finished mass adding the PS Plus subscription games onto my backlog, plus I got a bunch more games myself lol. Plus I got a Steam Deck, which hopefully will make PC gaming a lot more simpler to just pick up and play.

I’ve also been mucking about with emulating games on it too, but I’m trying to not get too ham all at once! I can easily spend way too much time with adding games and messing with settings that I end up not playing anything lol. Still, I’ve already gotten a few emulators up and running on it, so that will also be a really nice way to play some stuff too (and record gameplay for some fussy systems if I’d like as well). I know that some people emulate Switch games on it, but I won’t be bothering with that. A bit too new of a system to be doing that imo. I’m pretty much just going to be sticking with the retro stuff (especially if it’s not available on modern platforms and the original is ultra expensive), delisted games, or games that I own but are finicky to capture footage for (like DS & 3DS).

Anyway, let’s move on to the update stuff!

New Games*

I really got a lot of games this month! A good chunk of them don’t count towards my backlog though, since many were already on subscription services or I already had them digitally. I like having physical games, so I do double dip that way I guess lol.

Backlog

Number of Games: 2,291 (+272)
Time to Beat: 46,796 hours (+5,265 hours)

Yep, those numbers are big lol. Sure I did get a whole bunch of new games, but the real culprit was adding the PS Plus games to my backlog! Since I’m done with mass adding in subscription games though, this will probably be the last month where I’ll have such a massive increase in backlog numbers. I certainly still will purchase games, but I don’t think I usually get myself hundreds of games in one month lol.

It would be cool to see those numbers go down, but that might take a while. I’m still working on some games that I’ve already finished (ie the plats for Everybody’s Golf and Horizon Zero Dawn), plus the never ending behemoth that is Genshin Impact, which won’t do anything to my backlog lol. But who knows, maybe I’ll go ham in October and be a crazy game beating machine!

Goal Games Beaten: 0/46

Ah yeah, my list certainly exists… Kinda difficult to make progress if I don’t play the games that are on it. :/ Well at least I did play some Trails in the Sky, so hopefully I can continue making progress there now that I’ve got it working on my Steam Deck.

Also I have some spooky games on my list, so it would be really nice if I could squeeze those into the month (especially since I think they’re mostly on the shorter side). We’ll see how it goes I guess.

What’s Next?

Hopefully some more Trails in the Sky! I have it working on my Steam Deck, so assuming it continues to keep working fine, then I should be able to more comfortably play it. I would still like to make some progress with getting the plat in Everybody’s Golf, but I can take that at my own pace now that the servers are down for good. I would be nice to get more progress in Soul Hackers and Horizon Zero Dawn 100% too! It would be great to just put some time into Stray as well, especially since it’s not an incredibly long game.

Oh and hopefully maybe I can play some spookier games for the spooky season? Doesn’t have to be straight up horror, just spookyish I guess lol. I do have a few on my game goal list, which are: Alice: Madness Returns, Castlevania, Death Mark (replay), Destroy All Humans! (maybe a stretch, but aliens are kinda spooky right?), Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk, Mary Skelter Nightmares, School Girl/Zombie Hunter, and Spirit Hunter: NG. There are a few lengthy games on there, but there are also a good number of shorter games. Will I get to any of them? If I go by my usual wants/hopes then probably not, but I’m still going to be hopeful anyway lol.
